My Definition of Learning/Instructional Design and Technology

In my current position as an online teacher, every time I prepare my lessons I think about how I can  leverage my software, hardware, and online resources to deliver quality engaging instruction that allows for measurable learning outcomes.    This would be my personal definition of Learning/Instructional Design and Technology (LIDT).  As a systematic thinker, designing instruction comes naturally.  Technology is the medium that is used in order to make learning easily accessible and relevant, as it brings innovation into our everyday lessons or training.  It also streamlines processes that were time consuming in the past like communication, delivering content in different formats to reach a broader audience, and using data to guide instruction. Defining Online and Blended Learning

I have two perspectives on how online and blended learning looks like. First, online and blended learning, as it looks to me, is the space where you are learning. When I used to think of the word " learning" a classroom visual comes to mind . Online is all remote and blended learning uses both in-person and digital technology. It reminds me of when I get writer’s block using a laptop to do my writing, as soon as I physically get a pen and paper, the flood gates of my thoughts and ideas open. I can imagine, depending on the person, that is the experience some have in that they need human interaction and connection by being in a space that allows them to focus away from technology.  As a learner I tried both online and blended learning. I thought I needed to be in a physical space interacting with my peers and instructor in order to stay motivated, focused, and make more sense of learning objectives. I'm Reevaluating the Curve The journey through this semester’s exploration of emerging technologies had its ups and downs and I have learned a lot about the adoption of innovations and the role of technology. Although technology is the vehicle that is driving the innovations, it is more about how emerging technologies can be valuable to an organization and how it can be integrated to where it is seamless for the organization or even society as a whole. In my original WOL blog when thinking about where I was on the Diffusion of Innovation Curve, I discussed that I was an early adopter working towards becoming an innovator. Right now, where I stand, being an early adopter assisting majority members and laggards to embrace technology seems to be more fitting.
