Self-Assessment and Reflection

Image
I had the pleasure of being able to take the evaluation course along with my applied project for the Learning Design and Technology Master’s program at ASU. At first, I felt really overwhelmed but towards the end when my project team in the applied project class was running on fumes, I was able to keep them going as one of our final assignments was to write a final evaluation report. Although they took the course before, it was not fresh in their minds, and we just got done completing a huge project that took a lot of energy. Luckily for them, I took on the headache of taking two courses and the evaluation course was very helpful in refreshing their memories on how to write the report. For me, it did relieve some stress since I was able to navigate through both classes during the final weeks as they both were on the same page, writing an evaluation report. Based on my self-assessment in the beginning of the course, I gave myself a rating of 4, now I would be at 4.5. The evaluatio...

Evaluator Competencies Reflection

Image
The meaning of evaluation to me has been grounded in my professional and personal experiences. I took job titles like senior quality analyst, credit analyst, quality specialist, and math teacher all having to do with data backing up decision making. Also, when my mom got sick and it took two years to get her a diagnosis, doctors did many evaluations. The commonalities among those experiences brought me to an understanding that it takes time, data, awareness and a lot of research to come to a conclusion that makes sense in the decision making process. On the scale from 1 to 6, I would not rate myself as an expert, it would currently be a solid 4. I know that I have to hone my experiences, new knowledge, and evaluation skills to get to an expert level.  My experience with data came into play as I drew conclusions on my self-assessment. I took the average of each domain, at the thousandths place value and put them in order making the highest my strength and lowest my weakness. In the ...

The Future of Online and Blended Learning

Image
The vision for the future of online and blended learning looks bright, however, I’m an early adopter according to the Diffusion of Innovation Theory, which means it doesn’t take much for me to embrace technologica l advancements (2022). Before we can discus s the future, I would like to dive into the past and the present. I have the unique opportunity of presenting a few perspectives of someone who obtained continuing education online, teaches K12 online, a career changer from the competitive financial industry, and a parent of learners who are online during high school and college. Through my lenses, I am going to be sharing the opportunities and challenges that I see while integrating my studies from the Learning Design Master's Program at ASU. These perspectives and experiences will help me in leading the development of online and blended learning as I am empathetic to most of the target audiences and cognizant of the current technology climate. As a recipient of both my bachelo...

Defining Online and Blended Learning

Image
I have two perspectives on how online and blended learning looks like. First, online and blended learning, as it looks to me, is the space where you are learning. When I used to think of the word " learning" a classroom visual comes to mind . Online is all remote and blended learning uses both in-person and digital technology. It reminds me of when I get writer’s block using a laptop to do my writing, as soon as I physically get a pen and paper, the flood gates of my thoughts and ideas open. I can imagine, depending on the person, that is the experience some have in that they need human interaction and connection by being in a space that allows them to focus away from technology.  As a learner I tried both online and blended learning. I thought I needed to be in a physical space interacting with my peers and instructor in order to stay motivated, focused, and make more sense of learning objectives. When I did the blended learning, it was almost ten years ago, online meeting ...

I'm Reevaluating the Curve

Image
I'm Reevaluating the Curve The journey through this semester’s exploration of emerging technologies had its ups and downs and I have learned a lot about the adoption of innovations and the role of technology. Although technology is the vehicle that is driving the innovations, it is more about how emerging technologies can be valuable to an organization and how it can be integrated to where it is seamless for the organization or even society as a whole. In my original WOL blog when thinking about where I was on the Diffusion of Innovation Curve, I discussed that I was an early adopter working towards becoming an innovator. Right now, where I stand, being an early adopter assisting majority members and laggards to embrace technology seems to be more fitting. As I gain more experience in the world or leadership, I will be able to take people who are on the vertical stroke of the T-shaped innovator and help shift their strengths to become a team that allows me to be closer to becoming...

I'm on the Curve

Image
I'm on the Curve I have been on a wild ride in the past four decades of technology emerging and I am not ready to get off. I want to outline my journey as to why I feel I am at the cusp of Early Adopter to Innovator on the Diffusion of Innovation Curve and provide why the Masters in Learning Design and Technology will eventually push me over to Innovator. My very first experience with technology was when I was in third grade, I always finished my work before anyone. I was that early finisher and needed enrichment to fuel my learning, so my teacher allowed me to play Oregon trail or Lemonade stand. I recall using floppy discs, a bulky computer with a black screen and green letters that I had to type (command), to play the games. I remember it just sitting in the back with a cover collecting dust until my teacher decided to give it a try and keep me busy. I ended up becoming the helper when other students started playing. The next memory was when I worked for a major cable compa...

My Definition of Learning/Instructional Design and Technology

Image
In my current position as an online teacher, every time I prepare my lessons I think about how I can  leverage my software, hardware, and online resources to deliver quality engaging instruction that allows for measurable learning outcomes.    This would be my personal definition of Learning/Instructional Design and Technology (LIDT).  As a systematic thinker, designing instruction comes naturally.  Technology is the medium that is used in order to make learning easily accessible and relevant, as it brings innovation into our everyday lessons or training.  It also streamlines processes that were time consuming in the past like communication, delivering content in different formats to reach a broader audience, and using data to guide instruction. Leverage, quality, engaging, measurable, and outcomes would be the key phrases in my personal definition of LIDT.   The process would be a series of questions I ask myself.  Leverage : I need to kno...
